Foster Kent faced an interesting challenge when it was asked to modernize the sound of WBZ, Boston. This is one of the oldest radio stations in the world, having first gone on the air almost 100 years ago.
The challenge: How to recognize to the century long history of the station while still letting WBZ convey urgency as Boston’s all-news source for the 21st century?
The decision was made to incorporate the familiar WBZ audio signature used for decades in the Motionmixes design for the new WBZ. This allowed the station to honor its heritage while making it clear that WBZ is still on the cutting edge.
